I really like this piece and the concept behind it. Instead of going with a shot that included flames, the sun or some other source of fire, you stuck with the idea of the aftermath, and the ash smudges palms evoke a sense of understanding and the reality of experience: living is a messy business.
The early evening lighting is lovely, especially the angle with which it lays softly across the upturned palms. I would recommend that you also provide a source of back-lighting, to help the hands stand out more from the background~ colored back lighting would be even better, in either a cool tone for contrast or a warm color for impact and to emphasize the idea of flames.
The best way to do that might be to use a colored cloth and angle it for the light from the sun (or your original source) to reflect onto the bottom/back of the hands!
The focus is nice, but could be a little sharper, and a little more centered so that the tips of the fore hand don't go fuzzy. Otherwise, beautiful piece. Great way to include a variety of colors to give the unseen individual personality without cluttering the soft, muted tones of the image too! :3
:3 My first ever 'critique' I actually had these edited and printed for my class but the ones i've posted are just the raw files transferred to JPEGs but i see what you're saying and I really appreciate your feed back
You are so welcome sweetie! I love it when I get critiques, and I loved my photography classes... although I miss my camera and getting to develop everything by hand.... we even got to mix our own chemicals... oh, it was lovely!
